As part of the 8th meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, the Ministry of Energy held meetings with delegations headed by Italy’s Undersecretary of State at the Ministry for Ecological Transition Vannia Gava and Executive Director of TAP Luca Schieppati.
The meeting with Vannia Gava discussed issues of strengthening the role of the Southern Gas Corridor in the sustainable provision of energy security, developing cooperation between the two countries in various fields within the framework of a strategic partnership, participation of Italian companies in projects implemented in the liberated territories, as well as expanding cooperation in the format of the Renewable Energy Advisory Council, Report informs citing the Ministry of Energy.
Emphasizing the importance of natural gas for sustainable energy supply and energy transition, the undersecretary noted the importance of the country's cooperation with Azerbaijan in the next stage of TAP development.
Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said that thanks to Azerbaijani natural gas, Italian consumers are provided with natural gas at more favorable prices.
The minister also noted that the upcoming meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council will be devoted to energy transition issues for the first time.
“This meeting creates opportunities for the development of the Southern Gas Corridor as a project that meets global challenges and the goals of carbon neutrality, and deepening our useful cooperation with partners within the Green Energy Advisory Council. Only thanks to investments in offshore wind energy, 400 million cubic meters of gas per year can be saved, and these volumes can be exported.”
