First Meeting of the D-8 Energy Ministers

Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh

This is my first time participating in Baku Energy Week, and I am deeply impressed by the high standard of its organization. Among the key topics being addressed at the Baku Energy Forum, energy security remains one of the most significant. We naturally hope that the solutions developed through these discussions will help stabilize the current situation and reduce existing risks.

Bangladesh is a member of the D-8 group, an organization that promotes economic cooperation among eight developing countries with predominantly Muslim populations. The D-8 currently includes Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, Iran, Malaysia, and Nigeria. As part of the organization's future expansion, Türkiye is also expected to join the framework.

Within the scope of Baku Energy Week, the first meeting of the D-8 Energy Ministers took place in Baku on June 1. During this gathering, participants discussed cooperation on a number of pressing issues, demonstrating the effectiveness of the D-8 platform as a mechanism for collaboration. We are satisfied with the outcomes of this meeting, and our joint efforts on key matters related to strengthening the energy security of D-8 member states will continue in the future.
