Baku Energy Forum started its work

On 1 June, the 28th Baku Energy Forum kicked off in Baku. This major event in the Caspian region brought together over 600 participants who are discussing new challenges the energy sector faces in the transition period, European energy security and the role of Azerbaijan's energy sector in this respect among them.

The Forum's agenda lists energy-related issues of importance to both Azerbaijan and the wider Caspian region.

Opening the first session, Parviz Shahbazov, MInister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan delivered his welcoming remarks. He pointed out that the Baku Energy Forum has proven itself as a reliable platform for productive cooperation.

The session participants unanimously agreed that the Forum presents the perfect opportunity for parties to jointly carve the path towards energy security. As many a foreign participants said, "Azerbaijan is able to and will play a critical role in the new European energy security architecture."

Among speakers were UK Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan Baroness Emma Nicholson, Romanian Energy Minister Virgil-Daniel Popescu, Pakistani Minister of Oil Musadik Masood Malik, BP Executive Vice President (Production & Operations) Gordon Birrell, and Industry and Trade Minister of Czech Republic Jozef Síkela.
